Will Adding Small Scale Power Generation (under the MicroFit Program) Increase Your Property Assessment?
The short answer appears to be not likely if a new regulation does come into effect for the 2011 Taxation Year.
A recent column in the Scugog Standard, a local paper, put out by John O'Toole, MPP caught Barrie's attention as it said:
"The regulation indicates the assessment and clasification of property would not change due to an addition of a rooftop energy generation installation."
It took Barrie a little while to find just what he was referring to when he mentiond a regulation that was to come into effect for the 2011 tax year. You can see what he found on the service Ontario web site by visiting the following links

Great Proposal, wish the USA would do the same. Great blog post!

The owener of a small kennel get a portion of their assessment deemd commercial/business and pays taxes acordingly even if it generates no positive cash flow.
The owner of a larger scale solar/wind farm will pay property tax based on a non residential assessed basis
